On Location: Film Training

Our training course ‘On Location’ is a fantastic opportunity for local residents who want to break into the Film and Television Industry. From our debut course in the Summer of 2024 we have successfully ran 4 courses throughout the borough of Lewisham with many enthusiastic residents attending to gain knowledge on the inner workings of the film industry and the locations department.

In partnership with Lewisham Council, we offer this free course as part of our commitment to supporting and developing new talent and workforce in our industry.

What will you learn?

On this one-day course participants will gain key skills and knowledge of on-set location filming from our experienced industry trainers, including:

  • Film Industry overview
  • How a film production works
  • Set knowledge and key essentials
  • Crew roles and responsibilities
  • Advice on CV’s / finding paid on set work
  • Networking and work experience

Dominic Reeve-Tucker, Managing Director of The Film Office:

“This course will be offered to our clients, providing courses for free to local residents with a focus on diversity and inclusion.

We are keen to remove barriers and raise awareness for local residents and provide a real opportunity to gain valuable insight and skills that will create pathways to employment.”

Aftercare & Employment

Participants will receive a copy of the course handbook containing a guide to call sheets, movement orders, CV writing, cover emails, radios and a glossary of terms as well as access to online resources / industry contacts.

Following successful completion of the course candidates will join our database of CV’s in order to secure paid work on productions filming in the borough, allowing practical on set experience and the opportunity to network within an active production and experience life on a real movie set. Previous On Location Alumni have gone on to work on productions such as Netflix’s Black Doves, Apple TV’s Slow Horses and Paramount+’s Mobland.

The Film Office Ltd is committed to promoting equal opportunities in employment, both within our workforce and externally in our industry. We especially welcome applications from under-represented communities and backgrounds.
