SNL UK

SNL UK officially launches in the UK, bringing the iconic sketch?comedy format to British screens — and its into was filmed at home in Lewisham!

The debut spin?off series delivers everything viewers expect from the long?running US institution: topical sketches, a weekly celebrity host, a chart?topping musical guest, and the unpredictable, live?wire feel of a show written and performed in the same week. The UK cast features rising British comedy talent, while early hosts include Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, and Riz Ahmed, each bringing their own style to the live format.

Filming the intro on Deptford High Street roots the show firmly in its new home, showcasing a distinctly local, London energy in one of the city’s most vibrant and culturally rich neighbourhoods. The choice of location not only highlights the area’s character but also signals the show’s intention to blend SNL’s classic structure with a distinctly British voice.

For those ready to tune in, SNL UK airs live every Saturday at 10 p.m. on Sky One, and episodes are also available to stream on NOW.

David Attenborough Wild London

Back in the summer last year, Lewisham had a very exciting visit from David Attenborough’s team working on his latest documentary ‘Wild London’ which explores the surprisingly diverse, hidden wildlife within the UK capital, from Tottenham foxes to city-commuting pigeons. The Lewisham Film Office welcomed the production to two of our fantastic locations to film some of the vibrant wildlife that is hidden amongst the city landscape.

Firstly, in July they took to Hither Green Cemetery in the South of the borough to film general views of Lewisham skylines as well as beauty shots of the cemetery using a drone. Later on, they visited Telegraph Hill Park one of the borough’s most popular park with its green space and iconic viewpoint of the city. Wild London filmed in the park to capture the toad migration that happens each year as they move to the Lower Park ponds to breed. This event is quite the spectacle with hundreds of toads crossing the road. It becomes a real local initiative with Kitto Road getting closed off to motorists to protect the toads.

Wild London is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now – go and check it out and keep your eyes peeled for Lewisham! Trailer below.

The show follows three young people navigating friendship, dating disasters, and adulting whilst facing eviction from their flat.

The production filmed at a range of our fantastic locations for some of their scenes including the iconic Deptford High Street which every production love whenever they visit! Ladywell Cemetery was used for a funeral procession scene and Frankham House Estate was used for interior flat scenes. Its Gets Worse also popped up at various over residential streets across the boroughs for small dialogue scenes.
