Recent Filming – Kae Tempest in the borough!
If you are familiar with the work of Lewisham Native, Kae Tempest, you may have recognised Douglas Way and Deptford Market Yard making a star appearance in their latest music video ‘Statue in the Square’.
The production shot night sequences back in March of performers as statues in various positions throughout the square, whilst Kae and the camera curiously move around them.

On Location: Film Training Course
Following the success of 2 previous “On Location: Film Training” courses which ran in July and November last year, we were delighted to welcome applicants from the borough once again.
The Lewisham Film Office, in partnership with Lewisham Council welcomed 13 more residents from the borough with varying backgrounds and a passion for the industry for a 1 day training course which took place at the Albany Theatre.
Funded directly by Lewisham Council and productions based in the borough, the course is developed in collaboration with thecallsheet.co.uk and ran by experienced trainers Matt Gallagher, Amie Tridgell and Jude Winstanely. Participants spent the day getting a flavour for what it is like to work on a set! – including practical radio training, on set lingo and etiquette, CV writing, freelance lifestyle advice and networking.
As part of our aftercare programme, we hope to offer some of our Alumni work experience on set. We look to support all participants in the coming months, by offering work opportunities on shoots managed by The Film Office.
If this sounds like an opportunity for you, watch this space for future course information!
Promoting our Wonderful Street Locations
Here in Lewisham we have some truly fantastic streets that can be utilised as filming locations. From quiet Georgian cul-de-sacs to the great Deptford High Street, the boroughs varied architecture lends itself to all kinds of filming and photography shoots. Fashion photoshoots or period dramas can opt for the aesthetic backdrops of residential streets and productions such as crime thrillers or gang stories may favour the more gritty, urban environment of which Lewisham has plenty to offer from high streets, to market areas to high rise blocks.
We’ve collated our top 5 streets in the borough below:
Its no secret that Deptford High Street is one of our most popular locations for filming in the borough. With its mix of independent shops and mixture of old and new architecture, Deptford High Street is sure to bring vibrancy to any kind of filming or photography project. This area has been visited by some big names in the last few years including Netflix’s ‘Supacell’, Sky’s ‘A Town Called Malice‘ and ITV’s ‘You & Me’ as well as a whole host of music videos!
2. Admiral Street / Cranbrook Street
Lines of Victorian terraced houses line this quiet residential area making it the perfect location for period shoots who may require control over the streets to dress it as their desired time period. Streets such as these are also hugely desirable due to their quiet nature which makes life on set that little bit easier!
3. Bolina Road
One of the boroughs best underpasses, Bolina Road Underpass is essentially an on-street studio! Situated beside Millwall FC, this versatile dead-end street is ideal for filming. With its striking railway arches overhead and a graffitied underpass beneath the train tracks it makes for a great backdrop to all kinds of scenes from shifty gang meet ups to artsy performances such a for Emile Sande’s Music Video ‘There Isn’t Much’ or in yet to be seen scenes for Apple Tv’s Slow Horses Season 5!
Nestled in the heart of Deptford lies Albury Street, a quiet residential cobbled street, with unique period houses for the area. Fenced by Georgian terraced houses and period street lights, this street is a great double to the Spitafields area in Shoreditch which can be a little difficult to film on due to its busy nature. This quiet alternative would be fantastic for all kinds of briefs – fashion shoots, period dramas, commercials – you name ot!
